Queer Reflections

Chester and Zorian have invited students to make new interventional artworks in response to a chosen influential queer artist or writer. The temporarily sited artworks will be presented during the one-hour live event, encompassing performance, installation and interactivity within the context of Queer politics; representation, pride and protest.
About the Artists
Zorian Clayton is Assistant Curator of Prints at the Victoria & Albert Museum, specialising in 19th and 20th century posters and paper ephemera. Recent publications include contributions to ‘The Poster: A Visual History’ (Thames & Hudson, 2020) and ‘Museums, Sexuality, and Gender Activism’ (Routledge 2020). He has been the co-chair of the V&A LGBTQ+ Working Group for the past eight years, programming numerous special events and research projects on queer artists in the collections. Since 2016, he is also a programmer for the BFI Flare Festival, the largest LGBTIQ+ film festival in Europe, specialising in trans and non-binary content. Since 2017, he is a board member of Trans Creative, a Manchester-based company advocating for transgender people to tell their own stories in the visual and performing arts.
Chester Tenneson is an artist and Lecturer based in Manchester, UK. Chester’s practice explores the absurdity within the norms of institutional design and authority, examining the idiosyncratic nature of commonplace objects and language. His position as a transgender man is important; his artworks frequently reflect his experience as an outsider from everyday norms and language, which have a cisgender base. National exhibitions and projects include collaborations with Bluecoat, Castlefield Gallery, HOME, UCLan, V&A Museum and Trans Creative. International projects include collaborations with Galerie Nivet-Carzon, in Paris, Vidéographe, in Montreal and publications produced with North American trans masculine artists Cassils (Los Angeles) and Ria Brodell (Boston).
